Our Orchestra Story

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of YSO. Based in Yorkshire, we are dedicated to delivering exceptional concerts filled with musical charm and approachability. For years, we have captivated music enthusiasts with our high-quality performances. Join us on a journey of harmonious experiences that resonate with the soul.

Disbanded in 1955, the orchestra was reformed by Ben Crick and Jamie Hudson who supported over 50 super-talented northern musicians hit hard by the pandemic.

Playwright Alan Bennett and poet Ian McMillan have been announced as Honorary Patrons of the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra. Alan Bennett said: “When I was a boy in the ‘40s I was a fan of the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, going to concerts sometimes twice a week. A lifetime later I am happy to be its Honorary Patron. Orchestras need fans. Come and listen.”
